Matrix-Isolation
Matrix isolation is a technique used to study and stabilize reactive or unstable molecules. It involves trapping these molecules in an inert matrix at very low temperatures. The matrix, often a solid material like noble gases or nitrogen, provides a protective environment for the trapped molecules. By isolating the molecules in this way, we are able to analyse their structures, chemical reactions, and spectroscopic properties, gaining insights into their behaviour under controlled conditions.
